Upcycling’ is a key strategy to reduce food related environmental footprint and build supply chain resilience

Europe’s First Dedicated Upcycled Retail Category
In 2024, Rohlik Group became the first European retailer to launch a dedicated upcycled food category, co-developed and implemented by TFM.
First year results (CZ):
-
€336,000+ in net sales
-
19 tonnes of food rescued
-
104 tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided
-
Sustainability Star Award
What began as a Czech pilot has grown into a multi-country model across the Rohlik Group involving 200+ upcycled SKUs & 55+ brands.
This is not a campaign. It is a fully operational retail category embedded into mainstream grocery. It shows that upcycling works at scale when it is integrated at category level, not treated as a niche product experiment.
Secontaste
Secontaste is TFM’s in-house upcycled food brand and real-life innovation lab.
It was created to prove that upcycled ingredients are not niche substitutes, but competitive, desirable products that meet modern consumer expectations around taste, nutrition, and sustainability.
Through Secontaste, we test formulations, validate pricing, optimize sourcing of byproducts, and embed consumer insights directly into product development. This hands-on experience strengthens our ability to support retailers and manufacturers with solutions that are not theoretical, but market-proven.
Results to date:
-
5 in-house products across D2C, Retail & Horeca (HU & CZ)
